KA HUNA
WISDOM:
HAWAIIAN TRANSFORMATIONAL
BODYWORK
We are all looking for more love and joy in
our lives; a way to reconnect with our selves, the nature that
surrounds us and, ultimately, with our Creator. This search
involves exploring many different sources of knowledge and
experiences, mostly originating in ancient cultures whose
spiritual practices were a way of life that guided every action,
attitude and perception. It appears that ancient knowledge has
become a stepping stone for us now to reconnect with our innate
creative wisdom and spirituality that we have disregarded in
modern times. I believe there are universal truths that connect
all ancient knowledge like the thread that weaves the tapestry of
life so elegantly; and one of the most profound examples of these
lies in the mystery of Polynesian practices and Huna philosophy,
incorporating a profound healing bodywork called Ka huna Lomi
Lomi (massage).
The early Hawaiians were a peaceful people with knowledge of how
to interact with nature to influence their circumstances and live
in harmony. They had a deep reverence for Nature, knew
compassion, forgiveness and joy, and had the belief that the core
of the Universe exists in all beings. Much of their ancient
knowledge is revealed in the study of their language in which
each word consists of root words which have many meanings.
Storytelling was the means by which all knowledge was shared and
the listeners given the freedom to discover hidden truths in
their own time. Such is true of the seven ka huna principles,
each deeply layered with meanings that could take a lifetime to
explore.
Hawaiians also used dance, chanting, rituals, song, connections
with Nature and a sacred bodywork (Lomi Lomi) to live their lives
with spiritual awareness, balance and peace.
The Ka Huna’s were and still are the shamans, teachers and
healers of Hawaii whose true task was to teach people how to use
their own energy. Ka huna massage was not simply a way to relax;
it was a comprehensive spiritual and physical ritual that began
with prayer and continued with cleansing the body internally and
externally. It was used as a transformational tool during rites
of passage to completely balance mind, body, spirit and clear a
person on all levels of any blockages that may disrupt the flow
of energy throughout a person’s being.
Today this sacred “Temple Style”
massage (so called since it was once the place where this ritual
massage took place) is helping many people to move more
gracefully through major personal and spiritual transitions,
getting them more in touch with the ALOHA in their
soul.
“The dance of breath and life from the
heart”, as it is sometimes called, uses intuitive movement,
breath, rhythm, flow and focused intention to bring about
profound healing and alignment of the physical, emotional, mental
and spiritual bodies. The ka huna practitioner uses hands,
forearms and elbows in continuous flowing movements over the body
in a dynamic, rhythmical flow that connects with the natural
rhythms of nature on physical and energetic levels. Using the
principle of “energy flows where attention goes”, the
practitioner’s intention and focus can help release
blockages and redirect the flow of energy to facilitate positive
transformation.
The seven Huna principles embodied in this sacred bodywork have
become the cornerstone of my passion for this work and way of
life that has brought about such remarkable expansion and healing
in my own life:
Huna teaches us that our thoughts influence our emotions and
reality: By becoming aware of our thought patterns we are able to
clear limiting beliefs and make positive changes in our lives. We
can create the life we want by putting energy and focus into what
we truly desire, knowing that everything is interconnected and
that there are no limits to what we can create. We are amazingly
powerful beings as we contain the life force that created us. All
knowledge and power comes from within.
Life offers us opportunities in the present moment: we can learn
to respond to life in each new moment without reacting out of
fear from past experiences or projecting expectations about the
future.
Aloha teaches us about acceptance and forgiveness, without
judgments and attachments which only limit our perceptions and
opportunities. We can learn about the immensely powerful creative
force within us to manifest our dreams and trust in the mystery
of life. We can learn to live life passionately from the
heart.
This is an active path which involves being effective and true to
our own unique gifts and talents; embodying your beliefs and
truthfully effecting positive change just by being who you
already are.
“The huna way of life and philosophy teaches that the key
to living a fulfilled life lies in the awakening and integration
of your subconscious, conscious and higher selves. It offers us a
vision of life centered in love, a way of the heart with
Humankind, Nature and the Divine as harmonious parts of the
cosmic community.”
This is the joy of working with Ka huna as a way of life every
day. I feel very privileged to be able to share this gift through
this wonderful massage which is such a joy to give and a blissful
pleasure to receive.
The benefits include physical healing of injuries, increased
flexibility and energy, reconnecting with your personal power,
clearing the mind of negative thought patterns, becoming more
positive, overcoming past emotional trauma and addictions, and
letting go of “baggage” to make space for more love
and joy in your life.
I have seen many people make positive changes in their lives and
in the world through the experience of ka huna bodywork, either
through the training workshops, working with or receiving the
massage. This is an ancient wisdom shared in a beautiful
bodywork.

moment”
